Our Mission

The South African Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SASMEA) uplifts and empowers the SMME sector in order to transform the economic landscape into an inclusive market for the benefit of all; and to be the catalyst in addressing economic, political and legislative impediments to the growth of SMMEs.

We are involved in changing the landscape for SMMEs and are working on the following:

  1. Development of a Small Business Council (as per constitution).

  2. Better tax incentives for small business (tiered approach).

  3. Greater public participation with introduction of new laws, policy, regulations, etc. affecting small business.

  4. Create new markets and supply chains that can accommodate formation of new small businesses.

  5. Create an insurance that protects the small business owner when signing personal suretyship.

  6. Ensure that Department of Small Business Development acts as a bridge between silos that currently exist within government departments. Work towards an integrated approach.

  7. Ensure that there is complete transparency in awarding of tenders.

  8. Tenders only be awarded to companies operating and that has had no directorship changes for 2 years.

  9. Assist small business owners with the stress, “punishment” and stigma attached to when businesses fail that is due to external factors beyond their control.

  10. Measure the impact of government grants given to start-ups of small business with stats showing 1, 3, 5 10+ years of trading history.
